Policy and Advocacy
Home | Policy and Advocacy

As the primary state organization addressing domestic violence, we acknowledge that domestic violence isn’t solely an individual problem but is deeply rooted in societal norms and power dynamics. At the policy and legislative level, we advocate for laws and regulations that prioritize the safety and well-being of survivors, hold perpetrators accountable, and allocate resources for prevention and support services. By advocating for systemic change, our goal is to create communities that are more supportive of survivors and more committed to creating a culture of respect, equality, and safety.

Domestic Violence Fatality Review Board
With the approval of Senate Bill 2886 in the 2025 Legislative Session, Mississippi now has its first Domestic Violence Fatality Review Board. The Domestic Violence Fatality Review Board, starting July 1, 2025, will collect data and inform policy within the Department of Public Safety.
The board will address victim protection gaps, improve protective order follow-up, and enhance offender monitoring. The Review Board ensures accountability by identifying systemic failures, providing legislative recommendations, creating victim resources, analyzing fatality patterns, developing protective order protocols, and establishing data-driven reforms.
