The 8th Annual Purple for Peace
is a luncheon that promotes family violence prevention in recognition of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month (October). The event will be held Thursday, October 5, 2017
, at the Hilton Jackson Hotel, from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm
. The theme for this year’s luncheon is “Power Lines: Channeling Faith and Hope to Victims of Domestic Violence
.” In every faith, religious leaders and spiritual teachers are some of the first responders to victims of domestic violence. After the event, we will roll out our training calendar for religious leaders, to make sure they’re equipped to provide their spiritual bodies with accurate information and relevant resources.
The Purple Peace Prize honoree is Governor Phil Bryant
, whose entire career has included advocacy for victims of domestic violence. In keeping with the event’s theme of “Power Lines: Channeling Faith and Hope to Victims of Domestic Violence,” the Coalition will recognize community members whose efforts have worked to move the needle on perceptions of domestic violence and to give domestic violence survivors hope for a violence-free future. These honorees are Bishop James Swanson, Sr.
, Attorney Gail Thompson
, and John “Pat” Brown
, publisher of The Magee Courier
and Simpson County News
